Well the final Typhoon event has been and gone, the forecasters were right it was damned cold compared to most of the events weve had this year and for once we had a good breeze for the whole weekend. 31 boats turned up for the Draycote leg of the Typhoon series and were greated by a decent breeze and bacon/sausage sarnies...
So, with 5 races (3 Saturday, 2 Sunday) and 4 to count, the pressure was on from the start for all the Ents... unfortunately this wasn't me and James weekend to sparkle...again...
So the results for the Saturday were:
Race 1
1st Nigel and Katie
2nd Jeremy & Salty
3rd Ges and Craig
Race 2
1st Nigel and Katie
2nd Phil and Katrina
3rd Johnny and Paul
As we were just launching for the 3rd race a bloody big rain/wind squall came through, out the back of it as we were sailing/hurtling towards the start line 2 cool rainbows appeared on the water infront of us, me and James aimed for the end to try and find out pot of gold and could be heard singing (just) "..Somewhere over the rainbow, far far away..." had we been drinking...not yet!
Race 3
1st Martin and Simon
2nd Ges and Craig
3rd Johnny and Paul
So that was the day so far, as for me and James not a great day a 10th, 13th and a DNF were all we managed, we were definately not in the zone... and the kicker exploded on us in the 3rd race, not the best way to spenmd your disguard...
So, shower, pint and then the evening festivities begun...
Well it wasn't as messy as St.Mary's Loch, but the fairly small number of people that hung around the bar at Draycote certainly new how to relax after a hard days yachting... first up the meal, not bad when it eventually turned up - note to self, next time dont sit at a table at the far end of the club, cus you end up eating your meal when most other people are finishing off the pudding... after some "normal" socialising the efforts of the day and possible the alcohol started to kick in and off things went, we had dodgy bets, arguments between helm&crew, crews being bartered for (I really do need to make a helm/crew contact asap), general arguments, sailing arguments and all the other antics you expect from a load of Ent yachters who should, but don't know better... Gez, this weekends self-nominated Soulsailor PR bloke, wandered around evangelising about the web site to those that hadn't heard of it.... No entertainment was laid on for us, and alas Anita's Mum wasn't around to whisk us off our feet (or get her toes trodden on all night), doind tribal Midlands dancing, next time maybe :-)
So, after drinking far to much G&T again, the depleated Soulsailor G&T Team (Katie had gone home, Ges doesnt bloody like G&T, Alison didn't turn up and god knows what Julie was drinking) - Ant, James, Anita went stumbling off back to the Soulsailor abode in the back nof Young's drunk-mobile.... but we didn't go to sleep, so the night carried on, Playstation, Whiskey, random conversations and falling in and out of unconsciousness finished off the day (early morning)....
Day 2 - more breeze
So the forecast was wrong and we were greeted, blurry-everything to the prospect of cold, damp wetsuits and more hard work for the last 2 races of the final major Ent event of 2003.
Sailing was slightly better for us today, with an 8th and 9th but still not where I think we should be... Baz tried to hit us again and appologised afterwards, dunno what i've dome to upset him! So the breeze blew, the reaches when the gusts were sustained were great and, for us at least, there were no major incidents....
Race 4
1st Jeremy & Salty
2nd Nigel and Katie
3rd Ann and Alan
Race 2
1st Jeremy & Salty
2nd Nigel and Katie
3rd Barry and Julie
So, that was that, the overall results were as follows:
Overall Results
1st Nigel and Katie
2nd Jeremy & Salty
3rd Johnny and Paul
And the overall Typhoon Ent Grand Prix Winner was Tim Sadler.
